Fairfax VA Personal Trainer Explains How Much Calorie Intake Means

A lot of my clients that I provide Fairfax VA Personal Training to ask me, “Does my total calorie intake matter?”

That’s not exactly easy to answer, so as the top Fairfax VA Personal Trainer I wanted to break it down into a few parts. Obviously the quality of the calories is important, but that’s not what we’re going to talk about here today – I want to split this into a few pieces, so the idea of calorie intake makes the most sense to you.

Total intake is extremely important. Look at it this way, everyone’s body is different – some have much better metabolisms than others and can’t seem to put a pound on, then there’s the other half of the population that fights for every inch around their waist. The truth of the matter is, everyone has a calorie intake threshold, even Fairfax VA Personal Trainers! Once it’s reached all those extra calories are stored as body fat for the most part.

You burn a set amount of calories throughout the day just by breathing, eating, sleeping, and walking, but when you add exercise in this only boosts this number. Once you compute this magical number with formulas such as the Harris-Benedict equation, you’ll have a reference point of how many total calories for maintenance, fat loss, or muscle mass gain. There are still variations based on your genetics, but you would be surprised at how many calories you should be eating vs. how many you actually take in once you focus on building your daily diet within these ranges.

Don’t rapidly reduce your intake by more than 500-700. If you’re working on weight loss by yourself or with a Fairfax VA Personal Trainer, you don’t want to cut back for extreme weight loss. A simple reduction of 500-700 calories at most per day is more than enough for 1-2 pounds of weight loss per week! This is a safe method, and will keep your BMR (basal metabolic rate) from taking a sharp decline, which will only make your weight loss worries worse.

Counting your calories may shock and awe you. In our American society we overeat more than we realize! With all of the added calories that are hidden in foods we find healthy, and the ever growing options for empty-calorie restaurants and foods around us, even a Fairfax VA Personal Trainer struggles with counting calories. Luckily you there are more resources out there than ever at supermarkets, online and even chain restaurants post nutrition facts! Make an effort to count your calories for a week – you probably would be shocked at how much you’re taking in that you don’t really need!
