When I first started coaching clients on introducing a paleo lifestyle, a lot of them looked at me like I had lost my mind.
Can I blame them? Absolutely not.
Telling someone they need to completely overhaul the way they’ve been eating for a few decades is not at easy thing to do. This inspired me to highlight the 7 reasons to NOT try a paleo lifestyle.
Reason #1 You might sleep better
Sleep is one of the first steps to being healthy, reducing body fat, inflammation and just about everything else health and wellness related. The first “problem” with adjusting to a paleo based diet is that you WILL sleep better. It may happen right away, or even a few weeks down the road, but with full compliance you can expect to sleep like a baby in no time – which means you’ll feel better all around.
Reason #2 Your Friends Will Think You’re Crazy
Social situations will hands down be the biggest challenge between family, friends and everyone else that will look at you like you’re nuts. That’s right – many of your own friends and family who are unhealthy themselves, struggle with weight gain and medications, yet refuse to give up the processed foods and sugary diet will think you’ve lost your mind. If you want to remain in an unhealthy state physically and mentally, then you’re better off avoiding the paleo diet and embracing a healthy lifestyle.
Reason #3 You Will Save Money
After embracing a paleo lifestyle you’ll find yourself saving money on food – a LOT of money. You’ll find yourself less motivated to go out to restaurants, and more interested in finding awesome recipes, adjusting your shopping to get the best prices on quality products and not cooking at home more than ever. This will indefinitely lead to you saving money…..if you would prefer to not save money when it comes to your food bill in the month, then avoid paleo like the plague!
Reason #4 You’ll become a better chef
No one ever said cooking to a paleo lifestyle was easy, especially if you have kids that love all the “good stuff” you can’t eat anymore. The crazy thing is, you’ll find yourself searching and testing great recipes on a weekly basis that cater to your family and their tastes – while at the same time making healthy dishes. The end result? Your family will tend to be healthier by default, while you improve your cooking skills on a weekly basis.
Reason #5 You’ll be come healthier
If you’re on medication for diabetes, high blood pressure or cholesterol, then I have some bad news for you – your doctor may actually take you off your meds. That’s right – no more daily needles or pills that affect your mood and energy levels as your body will take care of all of that for you. A little crazy and scary to think about, right? You will be come healthier if you give it 100% effort and full compliance – this is guaranteed.
Reason #6 You’ll have to buy a new wardrobe
This is one reason you would want to avoid a paleo lifestyle. What’s worse than having to buy a whole new wardrobe as you find your clothes melting off your hips and thighs? You will absolutely reduce body fat after eliminating all of the inflammatory and fattening sugars and processed foods from your diet – guaranteed. I guess this means you’ll unfortunately have to treat yourself to a shopping spree with some of your newfound money you’ve saved from not going out to eat?!
Reason # 7 You Might Actually Like It
After a few weeks of feeling better, melting body fat, boosting your energy, sleeping better and sporting a new wardrobe as you make your friends jealous and touching up on your cooking skills…..you may actually start to like your new lifestyle! That’s right – you may enjoy being healthier! If this is something you do NOT want – then the paleo diet/lifestyle is absolutely not for you.
