3 Ways To Find Time For Working Out
Let’s be completely honest with ourselves and admit that we don’t believe we have enough time to do ___________ that we want and/or need to do.
Working out TYPICALLY falls into this category J
What I’m here to tell you is that you’re right.
What I’m also here to tell you is that you can change it – and here’s how!
What I’ve found is that if we believe we don’t have enough time for exercise, then we don’t have enough time for exercise. BUT if you were to have someone follow you around your whole day and mark down what you do minute to minute, hour to hour, there would be a MUCH different story.
We all waste time at some point in our day – whether it be five 10 minute increments in between obligations, or ten 5 minute increments, it’s all the same.
So how do we ALWAYS get our workouts in?
It sounds too simple – but time management is the answer (part of it at least!)
There’s actually TWO main things to follow to “find” more time to workout
Step #1 Make it a MUST-DO
When we decide something is a MUST vs. a SHOULD, we tend to make it happen no matter what. Unfortunately, exercise gets put in the “should” column at best for most – but can you imagine if you changed it to a MUST?
The best strategy to mentally make it a must is to PUT it somewhere that we CAN’T ignore it, in multiple ways. Put it on your fridge, on your mirror, etc.
When I say “it”, the best motivation I find is a less-than-pleasant picture of the shape we are in. The constant reminder of what we WANT to change will push this from the should to MUST category.
Step #2 Pencil it in….in PEN!
Once we mentally have clarity, direction and focus with what we MUST do, then it’s time to make it a reality!
Look at your calendar, stir things up a bit and punch it in as a “get-done” time slot.
Do you only have 30 minutes in your WHOLE day?
Fine – make sure those 30 minutes are spent working out.
You don’t need as much time as you believe to get a great workout in, so make darn sure that you never let time become an excuse again!
Step #3 Have a Backup Plan
At this point the most common excuse is ___________ came up or _______________ needed me.
Now there’s some truth to that, but realistically we can prevent a lot of “forest fires” that pop up out of the blue.
The best way to start with this is by having a backup plan.
Is there a chance oyu might not make it home in time to change if something comes up?
Then have your gym clothes with you.
Maybe you won’t have time for lunch and will pass out during your workout if so?
Have a pre-workout meal ready and with yu
Maybe the kids might need you to unexpectedly pick them up?
Have a backup plan – plain and simple, whether that be a husband, boyfriend, friend etc.
You’ll be your best, if you invest!
Exercise is an investment – constantly make deposits into YOU so that everyone in your life will benefit J
Don’t let another day go by where you don’t invest some exercise into yourself. Make it a MUST, commit it in your hectic schedule and GET IT DONE!
