3 Reasons We Fail With Weight Loss
There’s no doubt that we struggle to lose weight, whether we’re talking about the year old full time working mom or even the empty nester with more time on her hands than she ever predicted.
So what is it that separates those that effortlessly lose or maintain their weight – almost appearing as if they can eat anything their heart desires?
There’s a lot of reasons this occurs, but it boils down to a few things – the good news is that these are steps you can take on your own.
Why not follow the “recipe” others have created that find success.
As intellectual human beings, we tend to create patterns and habits for ourselves. These either serve us at a high level, or consistently bring us down and limit us.
Far too often, especially when it comes to weight loss, we create patterns that hold us back. One example could be
Overcommiting ourselves and our time
Stress out, put our meal prepping and exercise on the back burner
Stress EAT out of feeling like we have no time
Regain, or gain weight
We then repeat this same pattern, because we’re “hard wired” to overcommit, which is the real challenge!
The Weight Loss Recipe For Success
Move More Often
I find the #1 reason we struggle with our weight is simply because we don’t move enough. This leads to weight gain, lack of energy and exhaustion from long days – so what do we do?
We eat more.
As we eat more, we want to move less, which means we gain more weight.
See how SIMPLE this is (but not easy) to change?
By creating habits that force us to move more often, whether that be something as simple as walking when we can drive, or even prioritizing 30 minutes in the morning to walk and clear our minds.
This will serve us in the long run and establish habits that feed us in a positive way.
We’ll also break the cycle that robs us of our energy. The hardest part is mentally getting over the “I’m too tired to workout” mindset as we are physically pushed down, which mentally pushes us down even more.
From personal experience of serving busy working women and moms, I see how easy it is to prioritize everyone else’s needs and commitments over themselves.
When you feel like you’ve given everything you have to give to others, how in the world do you take care of yourself?
A lot of these women feel like they’re just surviving.
The honest truth is that we ALL have 24 hours in the day, it’s what and how we use it that makes the difference. There’s someone out there JUST as committed with their time as you are, if not more so this is not an excuse.
Take an honest look at your week, block off 3-4 time slots that nothing gets in the way (early morning works GREAT for this) and make a checklist so you have everything you needed prepared in advance.
Being proactive will set you up for success with everything, especially when it comes to weight loss.
Make A Commitment
By committing to someone or someone you’re far more likely to succeed.
Accountability is massive, which is why we run our training programs all based on appointment. It’s SO easy to not show up when no one is expecting it from us.
Whatever workout program you decide to do, make sure there’s some type of commitment aspect. Yes, you SHOULD lose out in some way if you don’t show up for your appointment, which is why personal training sessions are inherently great.
Having someone waiting for you is always going to serve you as well.
